Modi received kickbacks as Gujarat CM: Rahul Gandhi

Raising yet another scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the PM received kickbacks while serving as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2012.

"As per records available with the Income-Tax department, Rs.2.5 crore was given to Modi on October 30 in 2013, Rs.5 crore  on November 12, 2013, Rs.2.5 crore on November 27, 2013 and Rs.5 crore on November 29, 2013," Rahul said at the Mehsana rally in Modi's home state Gujarat.

According to the allegations, Modi received around Rs.40 crore from Sahara before he became prime minister in six months' time 2012-13.

"In a diary retrieved from the Sahara office during an I-T raid, there were file notings that clearly said that they paid Modi at least nine times in a duration of six months," he added.

He further accused the I-T department for holding records for the past two-and-half years and not taking any further action against the prime minister

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vehemently denied the allegations, calling it 'false' and challenged Rahul to come forward with 'proof if he has any'.

During the winter Parliamentary session, Rahul has constantly claimed that he has evidence of prime minister's personal involvement in corruption. He also attacked the Centre over the demonetisation issue and said 'the move is against the honest poor people.'

"Demonetisation move wasn't made against corruption or black money; it was against the honest poor people," he said.
