Rahul Gandhi meets PM Modi, discuss farmer loan waiver

Expressing serious concern over farmers' plight, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, along with senior party members, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to discuss the issue of farmer loan waiver issue.
“We met the PM, to discuss the plight of farmers. Farmers are committing suicide in Punjab and all across the country. Govt' has removed the import duty which has affected them badly,” Rahul said.
The delegation submitted a memorandum that includes loan waiver for farmers and problems faced by them post the demonetisation of higher currency notes.
The Congress vice president had launched a verbal attack on Modi and his government over the demonetisation move and had complained that he was not being allowed to speak in Parliament.
Modi at the BJP parliamentary party meet said that for the Congress, the party is above the country, but for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the country's interests are supreme. He said that earlier the Opposition would join hands against the government over scams like 2G, Coalgate, but now the Opposition is united against the government's steps to curb black money and corruption.
The opposition leaders of 16 parties are also scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee on the issue later on Friday.
