I am thankful to SC: Chouhan

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday for transferring the Vyapam scam case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while he lashed out at the Congress party for demanding his resignation and said they are suffering from ‘Shivraj phobia’.

“I am thankful to SC,” said Chouhan, addressing a press conference. “Day before yesterday, I had filed a petition in the MP High Court for CBI probe,” he added.

On Tuesday, he had announced that he would write to the High Court to request for a CBI probe into the Vyapam scam case.

“Although the Special Task Force (STF) had conducted a good probe, some questions were raised. Even, the opposition Congress party made allegations against us,” Chouhan said.

Referring to the opposition demand for his resignation, the chief minister said, “They demand my resignation five-six times a day. The Congress is suffering from ‘Shivraj phobia’.”

Meanwhile, welcoming the SC decision, senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi told thestatesman.com, “I welcome the decision and direction given by the SC. We have been demanding that investigation should be carried by the CBI, but the state government did not seem interested in a CBI enquiry. It is the SC decision."

"Now this government has no option to refer this investigation to the CBI. We still expect and hope that this investigation be done under the SC supervision,” Alvi said.

The Congress leader then said, “Vyapam is the biggest scandal of the country that has ever happened, if the BJP expects that the Congress should not demand or should be kept mum, it is not possible at all."

"We have been demanding that the investigation should be done by the CBI under the SC’s supervision so that truth should be revealed to the nation," Alvi added.
