Moong Daal Halwa – a sweet Raksha Bandhan treat

Serves:                        12

Ingredients:

·         Moong Daal          0.5 kg

·         Pure Ghee             0.5 kg

·         Sugar                      1.0 kg

·         Milk                        Double the quantity of daal

·         Khoya                    250 gms

·         Cashew nuts         20-25

·         Raisins                    30

·         Almonds                20-25

Method:

·         Take moong daal and wash thoroughly.

·         Soak it in water for two hours.

·         Drain the water and make fine paste in a processor without adding water.

·         Put a deep big pan on fire.

·         Put ghee in the pan and pour the daal paste in it.

·         Stir it for half an hour constantly on low flame as it will keep sticking at the bottom of the pan.

·         Cook it for another one hour stirring occasionally.

·         After some time the halwa will look like suji halwa and turn to light brown in colour.

·         It will start leaving ghee on the sides.

·         Add dry fruits and grated khoya in it.

·         Cook it for another 10 minutes on low flame and put sugar and milk in it.

·         Stir till it gets dry on low flame.

·         Serve hot.

Be a little patient while cooking this halwa as it takes more time than other halwas. But,  you will not regret putting that extra effort to make it.
