Mizo CM appeals for continuing AI flights

Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has appealed to the Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju to continue Air India flights between Mizoram’s Lengpui airport and Imphal in Manipur.

Air India had earlier announced its decision to discontinue flights between Lengpui and Imphal from October.
Lal Thanhawla, in his letter to Raju on Wednesday, termed the decision of Air India as unfortunate while the centre has been making arrangements to connect even smaller towns.
He said that air link was extremely important for states like Mizoram, which has difficult terrain, denying it with good connectivity with its neighbouring states.
“The people of Mizoram and Manipur have close affinity with relatives on both the sides, making it necessary to have good connectivity,” he said.
He added that students of Mizoram’s Regional Institute of Para Medical and Nursing Science (RIPANS) and College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, under the Central Agriculture University, Imphal, would be facing serious problems if the flights are discontinued.
