Nagaland on Monday joined the rest of the country in celebrating 70th Independence Day, showcasing the rich and diverse tradition and culture of the 16 Naga tribes.
Addressing the main celebration at Secretariat Plaza here, Chief Minister T R Zeliang said Naga people were marching on the path of development.
Unfurling the tricolour, the chief minister highlighted some of the key achievements of the state government in several sectors.

He said that even though the economy of the state was growing faster than the national average, it should not be forgotten that an overwhelming part of this growth was financed by the central government. "There is an urgent need to increase our own revenue," he said.
The celebration throughout the state was peaceful with no Naga underground groups calling for a protest.
