Najma Heptullah is first woman governor of Manipur

President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday appointed new governors for Manipur, Assam, Punjab and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, officials said.

Najma Heptullah has been appointed as the first woman governor of Manipur.

The former vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and a five time member of the Rajya Sabha, Heptullah will succeed V Shanmuganthan as the 18th governor of the state.

Meanwhile, Assam&’s Governor PB Acharya will be succeeded by Banwarilal Purohit, a three-time Member of Parliament from Nagpur.

Furthermore, VP Singh Badnore has been appointed as governor of Punjab while BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi was appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The appointment will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices.
