Cheteshwar Pujara, who came into bat at No.3, accumulated 112 runs with the opener Murali Vijay and gave India a solid platform for a big score.

But, both Pujara and Vijay left in the span of 13 runs. Captain Virat Kohli, who rarely fails, got out cheaply by scoring only nine runs.

Ajinkya Rahane (18), Rohit Sharma (35) and Ravichandran Ashwin (40) got good starts, but failed to capitalise for big scores.

From New Zealand, Fast bowler Trent Boult and left arm spinner Mitchell Santner took three wickets each.
