Defending champions Sai Praneeth and Ruthvika Shivani entered the second round after getting byes in the opening rounds of the men’s and women’s singles events respectively at the 80th Senior National Badminton Championships here on Thursday.
2011 Champion, Sourabh Verma also reached the second round after beating Andra Pradesh’s Apparao S 21-11 21-9, while Harsheel Dani defeated Sree Avinash K Jagan Mohan 21-8 21-5 and Siril Varma beat Kerela’s Alwin Francis 21-7 21-3 in other men’s singles matches.
Second seed Sameer Verma, third seed RMV Gurusaidutt, Fourth seed Anand Pawar, fifth seed Aditya Joshi, sixth seed Shreyansh Jaiswal, ninth seed Subhankar Dey and 13th seed Pratul Joshi — all got byes in the first round.

In women’s singles, two-time champion Sayali Gokhale also entered the second round after beating Punjab’s Vanshika Tandon 21-14 21-5, Rituparna Das also saw off Kanwaljeet Kaur 21-10 21-11.
Top seed Tanvi Lad, second seed P C Thulasi, third seed Saili Rane and fourth seed Neha Pandit were among women shuttlers who received a bye in the opening round.
Tanvi defeated Manali Bora 21-10 21-5, while Neha thrashed Sangeeta Negi 21-5 21-5 to reach the third round.
