Rio 2016: Will Indians shine on Day 8?

There were a few reasons to cheer and there were many heartbreaks for Indians as the best athletes of the country compete in the ongoing Rio Olympic Games. The wait for a medal, however, continues as none of the players or teams have been successful in occupying the top positions yet.

On Friday i.e. day 8, sports fans can witness some non-stop action. From archery to shooting to athletics to boxing, Indian sports stars will fight it out to move ahead in the competition and win a medal. 

Here are the details of the games to follow and Indian players to watch out for during the day:

Hockey 

Men’s Hockey, Group B : India vs Canada

At  9 pm the match will be telecast. On Thursday, the team went down fighting to the Netherlands. 

Rowing

Men’s Singles Sculls: Dattu Baban Bhokanal

The match will be telecast at 9.20 pm. However, he is out of the medal contention. 

Shooting

Men’s Skeet Qualification: Mairaj Khan Ahmad

At 6 pm the qualifying event will start. 

50 m Rifle Prone, Men’s Qualification: Gagan Narang, Chain Singh 

This will be telecast at 5.30 pm. 

Men’s 25 m Rapidfire Pistol Event: Gurpreet Singh 

At 8.45 pm the event will be telecast. 

Archery 

Men’s Individual 1/8 Eliminations: Atanu Das

As archers Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi are out of the contest, India rests its hopes on Atanu. Switch on to watch the action live at 5.43 pm. 

Athletics

Discus Throw: Vikas Gowda

It will be telecast at 6 pm. 

Men’s 20 m Walk: Krishnan Ganapathi, Gurmeet Singh, Manish Singh

The event is slotted for 11 pm. 

Men’s long jump: Amit Sharma, Renjith Maheshwary 

Early on Saturday morning at 5.50 am the athletes will compete. 

Men’s 800 m, Heats: Jinson Johnson 

The event will be telecast at 6.40 pm. 

Men’s 400 m, Round 1: Muhammed Anas Yahiya

On Saturday morning, the event will be telecast at 6.13 am. 

Badminton

Women’s Doubles, Group A: Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa

It is a do-or-die match for the duo as they lost their opener on Thursday. They will face Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek at 5.30 pm. 

Men’s Doubles, Group D: Manu Attri and Sumeeth B. Reddy

They will face sixth-ranked Chinese pair Biao Chai and Wei Hong at 7.50 pm. 

Boxing

Men’s Middle Preliminaries, 75 kg category: Vikas Krishan

He is one of the top medal contenders. In this round, he will take on Turkish player Onder Sipal at 3.30 am. 

Golf

Round 2, Men’s event: SSP Chawrasia and Anirban Lahiri 

The event will start at 4 pm.
