A simian raid

They came in groups. Their tails hanging from the perches of their choice, they surveyed the area and then set off in marauding parties. Snatching food stuff or what they considered to be eatables from the passersby and children, these creatures scared the living daylights out of the residents of an area of Bhowanipore which had been in the news owing to a law and order problem leading to the ransacking of a police station.

But it was over in a few minutes. It may be recalled that the arrival of a simian near the chief minister&’s house has been reported in these columns a few weeks ago. Now it seems it had been a reconnaissance.

The attacking party was waiting in the wings for an opportune moment to launch a lightning raid into the settlement of the upper vertebrates, and then disappear as if they had never been there.
