Arresting works

The chosen artists may seem unknown to us, they are all well established and known in their own countries, having participated in various art fairs, gained recognition and been promoted by international galleries.

For the Indian viewers to be thus accorded familiarity with international art and artists,taken in its right perspective, should cause no harm.

Most of the works presented are arresting and substantial in content. Pepijn Simon and Chantal Van Houten come from the Netherlands.

While Simon experiments to see how much he can eliminate from a face without recognition, for Houten facial expressions and body posture are her path to determine persona.

Miss France of yore, Pascale Torua, having suffered enduring facial disfigurements after a major car accident, seeks women who reflect symmetrical perfection, using it as a mask to work on oneself. To this end she paints close-ups on large canvasses.

Gabriele Sermuksnyte from Lithuania is represented by a somewhat formidable looking work, with a woman’s hands forcing open a canine’s jaws, baring all of fur and fangs, titled "Here flies the little bird", and another with a unicorn at tea, titled "Saccharine Unicorn", both holding surrealist overtures.

Sung Ha Ahn of Korea makes realistic paintings of ordinary objects like cigarettes and candy, only imbuing it with a sense of foreboding.

Viet Ha Tran is a Vietnamese fine art photographer currently living in Madrid, who has been featured in countless publications worldwide including Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair, France, several Vietnamese journals, Photography Master Class Magazine.

Her awarded photograph The Lotus Lake was sold by Christie&’s Hong Kong at the highest bid of the night, with all profit going to charity. Her photographs try to portray the inner qualities of femininity Rs emotions, dreams and intimacy. Agata Zychlinska form Poland is interested in shape, form and colour, and seems adept at her own brand of stylisation, stopping just short of distortion and abstraction.

Maria Aparichi from Spain, with her La Torera. The Bull Fighter, in her manner of painting is highly reminiscent of Dhiraj Couudhary’s ’90, and early 2000 paintings.

Emil Aziz from Turkey and Dmitriy Kalujni from Ukraine excel as impressionist inspired painters. CJ Tanedo of Phillipines, Alex Rennie and Steve Lawler from the UK, Kjetil Jul from Norway, Weixin Guo, Hongru Yao, Xiaodong Cui and He Wei from China are realists of a very high order.

Light is a dominant feature in the paintings of Bo Young Jeong of Korea, along with architectural spaces,landscapes and still objects.

Pedro Fausto of Spain, Hanzy Oleh from Ukraine, Hyunju Kim and Magdalena Krzak from the US, China’s Kan Sun, Germany’s Corinna Wagner, Philippines Carlo Gabuco andLyra Garcellano, and Italy&’s Duilio De Gennario are all very proficient artists, with clear heads and sure hands to execute what they wish to.
