Made in India
KIIT, Gurgaon in collaboration with Department of Electronics and Information Technology and Government of India organised a workshop on Electronics Systems, Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) to promote awareness for capacity building and launch “Made in India” a global brand in electronic products. Another objective is to make academia and students aware of this sunrise sector to attract greater talent to meet the intellectual and human resource requirements and to motivate existing and potential investors both foreign and domestic to invest in ESDM. Participant intake is limited. Nominated registration fee for outside participants is Rs 500, outside faculty is Rs 250 and for outside students is Rs 100.

No fees allotted
The Oberoi Group has opened online applications for selection of students for its Systematic Training and Education Programme – a three-year programme designed for students completing high school, combining on the job training with study towards a Bachelor of Tourism Studies from Ignou. On completing the programme and subject to vacancies, Step graduates may join The Oberoi Group as operations assistants or compete for admission to The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development&’s two-year postgraduate management programmes leading to an executive position. No fee is payable by the students selected for the Step programme. Instead, The Oberoi Group will offer a monthly allowance, accommodation, meals on duty, uniform and medical insurance. The British Council invites applications for its International English Language Testing System Scholarship Award 2014 where eight successful winners will receive an award of Rs 3 lakh each against tuition fees. The winners will need to begin a full-time programme at any overseas university that uses Ielts as a measure of English language proficiency as part of their admission process. One must be a resident and citizen of India, have a current band score with a minimum of 6.0, have a valid offer letter from a recognised education institution  and who is beginning an undergraduate or postgraduate programme outside India in the 2014 academic year.  Visit: www.britishcouncil.in/exams/ielts/scholarships for further details. Good initiative
Saint-Gobain Glass&’s Transparence 2013 conducted its grand finale at Hyderabad very recently at the annual 56th National Association of Students of Architecture 2014 convention. The competition originally being held for Indian students since 2005 is open for the Saarc nations participants since 2013. Mumbai receives a cash prize of Rs 75,000 and was declared as winners, IIT-Kharagpur, first national runner up winning Rs 50,000, followed by SPA Vijayawada winning a sum of Rs 25,000. Comsats University, Islamabad won the rest of Saarc countries edition of Transparence. This apart, a scholarship worth Rs 3 lakh was given to three students, a lakh each to pursue projects on reusing urban waste to modular shelters for street children. Fourteen colleges took up the theme as studio projects and were awarded books worth Rs 30,000 per college.
