Deservedly awarded
KIIT College of Engineering was awarded the Assocham National Excellence Award 2014 on 8 March for being the best engineering college in the Northern Region. SS Agarwal, Director General, KIIT College and Neelima Kamrah, Registrar received the award from Padma Vibhushan and member of the Rajya Sabha Karan Singh.
Agarwal said, “We are grateful to Assocham for recognising our hard work.  This is also an evidence of the right initiative being taken by us to strengthen various facets of teaching. We believe in real innovation and such awards act as a motivation. Our focus is on growth through innovation and technical education. We will try to bridge the gaps in different areas of education.”

Theory-practice link
In a bid to bridge the gap between theory and practice, Wigan and Leigh College introduced a unique course that is being designed by the Employers Council to make students relevant to industry requirements.
   The board members of the Employers Council would go through and approve the content, which is being taught by many branches of WLCI abroad. Currently, ace professionals from Dabur India Ltd, Kotak Life Insurance, Ogilvy and Mather India, Vodafone Essar, Tata Sky Ltd, Tata Communication Services, Axis Bank, Hindustan Times Media Ltd, Supertech and Samsung Pvt Ltd are associated with WLCI. Its quality of education with an industry relevant course curriculum help students get best placements in the industry.
   WLCI strongly believes in providing relevant education and on-the-job training to students in order to generate highly skilled manpower for the industry.

Enlightening minds
Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, one of the top business schools in India, conducted a global conference on management in recovering markets from 5 to 7 March. The conference served as a rich platform for presentation of research papers, views and discussions from some of the most notable researchers, academicians and policy makers of the country.  In association with its worldwide partner institutions, MDI will hold four such international conferences every year for the next three years. Besides the one held in March in Gurgaon, there are three other conferences slated to be held in October, November and December 2014 in South Asia, Australia or North America respectively.
   Subjects that will be deliberated upon are Consumer Preferences and Marketing Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Emerging Economy and Human Resource Management, Strategic HRM and Organisational Behaviour, Strategic Marketing and Brand Management, Strategic Procurement and Pricing, Enterprise Resource Planning, Retail, Information and Communications Technology, Social Media, to name a few.
   Mukul Gupta, Director, MDI Gurgaon, said, “Such conferences will prove to be a very stimulating event for all the participants and students. We have received and reviewed around 150 papers on recovering economic environments. One can look forward to both fresh and seasoned perspectives emerging out of the conference with luminaries and thought leaders from across a variety of fields bringing forth their views.”
