Inspiration drive
United Group of Institutions organised a one-day seminar on the scope of careers in the automobile industry. Arun Malhotra, president, sales and customer care, Mahindra and Mahindra, was present as a key speaker, while the seminar itself was attended by 100 students. Malhotra shared his own professional experiences to help students choose the right career path, learn the importance of consistency to excel through hard work and expose students to corporate knowledge. He said that those who specialised in design could join research and development wings of automobile companies. Automobile maintenance engineers supervise mechanics in factories and workshops. Industry giants provide job opportunities to qualified engineers in their production plants with attractive remuneration and incentives. He added that those with a BTech degree in automobile engineering and an MBA could make it to the top of marketing and sales management divisions.

Singapore scholarship
Global Schools Foundation, a non-profit organisation in Singapore, has created an opportunity for aspiring Indian students to study in the flagship campus of Global Indian International School, Queenstown, Singapore by offering a merit based scholarship. GIIS Global Citizen scholarship was instituted in 2008 for Indian students to complete junior college (First and second year) in International Baccalaureate and Central Board of Secondary Education at GIIS Queenstown. Coupled with commendable placements in leading universities of USA, Australia, UK and Singapore, GIIS has won 30 national and international awards for academic excellence. It is perhaps the only Indian school to have produced IB toppers globally. The GIIS Global Citizen Scholarship for the Academic Year 2014-16 will soon be announced and it is open to the whole nation. Written exams will be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, Ahmedabad, Indore, Surat, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai. The scholarship includes an  amount of $ 90,000 SGD, a onetime return airfare + visa fees, tuition fee, boarding in the hostel, one time settling allowance of $500 SGD and $200 SGD per month for pocket expenses.

Energy efficient car
Students of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Manav Rachna International University have invented a Formula One racing car – the MRV3, a first of its kind eco-friendly vehicle with a mileage of 123 km per litre. It will compete at the Shell Eco Marathon to be held in Manila, Philippines on 6 February 2014. The MRV3 has a five-point seat belt for safety, four hydraulic disc brakes using Bosch TMC and a Taylor steering system. The chassis can bear a load of 500 kg and front impact of 2000 km. The body is made from fibreglass and has hollow circular pipes to reduce weight and improve strength. Shell Eco Marathon is a unique event that challenges students to design, build and drive the most energy efficient cars. At three events around the world, hundreds of teams compete to travel the farthest distance on the least amount of energy.

Social cinema
Yes Foundation, Yes Bank&’s social development arm, today launched “Yes I am the Change”, a film project, at Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata to inspire, engage and empower students to participate in India&’s social transformation. Through the medium of short films this project will facilitate a connection between students and social causes, thereby channelising untapped energy of the youth. Students will take up the challenge of making short films of up to five minutes duration on social causes, everyday heroes and small acts of kindness. The best film from each institute will compete at a national level and a national jury, composed of eminent individuals, will select the top three films. The films will be screened in schools, colleges and film festivals across the country to increase awareness on social issues.
