Impressive in its entirety

Marked by novelty of presentation, dance acquired sparkling features in the seasonal concert of the Dover Lane Music Conference, held at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium ICCR, Kolkata. Besides, staging solo performances of Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Odisi, Kuchipudi and Manipuri by well-known artists of the trends, dance drama in the purely classical form of Bharatnatyam and Manipuri added a new feather to their crown of success. The creative aspect of Indian dance was immensely felt in the production of Jalsa Chandra and Bimbovati Devi in the language of Bharatnatyam and Manipuri.

Jalsa took up the theme of protesting against the authoritative patriarchal mindset as has made men dominate women from the mythological age to the here and now. In fact, in the name of religion, women were tortured with inhuman brutality and were nothing but prey to the whims of the opposite sex. Their life and death were like sport to men.

Jalsa challenged all those dishonorable attitudes demanding the emergence of women as the immortal daughter of fire. What deserved mention was the demonstration of mythological incidents with the intelligent use of the abhinaya and footwork of Bharatnatyam and Kathak.
