Last-minute tips

With days to go before the most important engineering entrance examination, here are some key points to consider:

Dos: The average number of JEE applicants per test centre is likely to be more than that of the other exams you are likely to appear for. Students are advised to reach the test venue at least one hour prior to the scheduled start of the examination. While the questions may or may not have differential marking, the level of difficulty may totally depend on own comfort level with the topic and the total time that you have invested in preparation. When all questions carry equal marks, then the strategy should purely be based on time management. Make sure you identify those “must do questions” from each of the subjects.

Don’ts: One should not forget to invest a few minutes to completely scan the paper. While it is okay to spend more than average time on one subject, overdoing it will make you miss out on the easier questions in the other subjects. Don’t guess wildly. The cost of negative marks is extremely high in an examination where such large numbers of students are competing. If all the questions carry equal marks, do not spend much time on any particular question. The pay-off in will not justify the opportunity cost of not getting to solve other questions.
