Villages across the Indravati reservoir are in the grip of Malaria and other diseases and deaths suspected to be due to the outbreak has caused panic among people and concern to health department.
Under Talnagi gram panchayat villages like Tea, Muskuti, Bhurbhuri are reeling under the outbreak. The sarpanch of Talnagi gram panchayat , Parameswar Majhi alleged that 21 deaths had occurred during last two months in the water logged inaccessible areas. Many others are suffering without any health care, he said.
However visiting the affected areas with his medical team the chief district medical officer, Brajakishor Brahma said “ 16 deaths had occurred in the area over the last three months, mostly due to Malaria.
He said that preventive and curative steps have been initiated and a health team has been deployed. The team is now camping at Talnagi he said. Brahma pointed out that the area is malaria endemic due to water logging and lack of sanitation. The affected areas are inside the Indravati Reservoir and can only be approached by boats.

On Monday CDMO along with health team visited the affected villages and a base camp for health workers was set up at Talnagi. There has been a long pending demand for deployment of a power boat to facilitate different services to the people. Former union minister Bhakta Charan Das also visited the area on Monday and expressed his concern.
He alleged that these people are deprived of bare minimum health services and other amenities.
